PhD Project: Evaluation of thermally activated mattresses (cooling beds) for thermal comfort, energy savings, and sleep quality, simultaneously in UK homes

Jaydeep Bhadra is a PhD Student in Energy Resilience and the Built Environment (ERBE) CDT at Loughborough University. His research interests include personal comfort systems, adaptive thermal comfort, passive or low-energy cooling/heating technology, and innovative policies & programs for transitioning to net-zero (energy and carbon) built-environment. Jaydeep holds a BTech degree in Architectural Engineering from SRM University, India and a MTech degree in Building Energy Performance from CEPT University, India. He is a Chartered Engineer and has over six years of professional experience, working in construction industry, consultancy, and policy think-tanks. He is a member of ASHRAE, IEI, and volunteers his time in Technical Committees of ASHRAE. Outside working hours, he loves to cook and paint and enjoy travelling to new places.

Currently, his research area focuses on Comfort, Health, and Wellbeing with a major thrust on Personal Cooling System. His Ph.D. research aims to quantify the potential of thermally activated mattress (cooling beds) to provide thermal comfort, energy savings, and enhance sleep quality simultaneously in comparison to a conventional mechanical air-conditioning system in bedrooms, under the current and future UK climate.
