Will is an engineer, with an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Imperial College London. He has worked in the aerospace industry, developing smart factories and digital twins of industrial processes, and is now interested in developing smart sustainable buildings and assessing the impact of their digital twins.
Sustainable Digital Twins – A Data Driven Approach to Modelling the Resource Footprints of Live Data Streams in Digital Twins
With increased accessibility to the Internet of Things, digital twins are becoming increasingly common. Will’s PhD project aims to quantify the costs and benefits of this increased availability of data, to enable digital twins to be used effectively and become an asset for businesses, society, and the environment. To do this, he is using the UCL East One Pool Street building as a living lab. This allows for an assessment of the net impact of a building’s digital twin on its running costs, carbon emissions, and overall occupant satisfaction.
