A socio-technical evaluation of external shading to mitigate summertime overheating in UK homes

Overheating in UK homes has become an increasingly pressing issue in recent years, particularly as climate change contributes to more frequent and intense heatwaves. Many buildings are not equipped with adequate measures to combat overheating, such as shading devices. This lack of adaptation leaves residents vulnerable to discomfort and health risks during summer heatwaves. This study will focus on the effect of different external shading devices on indoor environment and overheating risk, and their user acceptance in naturally ventilated dwellings in the UK.

Niloo’s PhD is under the supervision of Dr. Ben M. Roberts, Dr. Arash Beizaee, and Dr. Zoe De Grussa.
